Maulana Syed Fazil Hussain Moosavi, founder of Idara e Babul Ilm Los Angeles, was born in a city of Pakistan that is known for producing the most educated Alims. Born to a household filled with knowledge, wisdom, and piety, he is one of the most distinguished and respected Scholars in the world today. He was raised in a strong religious environment under the guidance of his virtuous parents, which led him to seek knowledge at a very early age, in the holiest city of Najaf.   In the early years, Syed Fazil Moosavi began to learn the essence of speech and studied jurisprudence (Usool & Fiqh) under the guidance of the most renowned scholars of this time, including Grand Ayatullah Khoie and Ayatullah Baqir us Sadr.  Maulana Moosavi had to leave the holy city of Najaf because of the severe persecution against the Shias in Iraq by Saddam’s regime. Thereafter he took the task of spreading knowledge, and served as a teacher in Habib Public School, Karachi Pakistan for several years.  During the time of Zia ul Haq’s regime in Pakistan, he was seen as a threat largely because of his agitation on behalf of Pakistan’s Shia population. Being a revolutionary thinker, he worked closely with Shaheed Arif Ul Hussaini for the safety and voice of the Shia population in Pakistan.  Even after the death of the Shaheed Quaid Arif ul Hussain he continued his Shia advocacy during the prime black era of the brutal killings of Shias in Pakitan by Sipah e Sahaba. He also continued his endeavours of spreading knowledge and the teachings of Muhammad (S.A.W.W.) wa Aaalay Muhammad (A.S.) serving as a Resident Alim and imam of a well known masjid e Babul Ilm in Karachi Pakistan. 
Maulana is currently well known for his relentless efforts and services all over North America, especially in New York, New Jersey, Houston, Toronto, and Ottawa. He’s the founder of Masjid e Babul Ilm (www.babulilm.org) Los Angeles California, where he offers weekly Shab e Jumma Duroos, Lectures, and various religious programs.
